For those who have already been to Greece, the Greek salad is a must have plate, a plate full of summer vegetables and olive oil, full of taste, flavors and vitamins. The secret of the greek salad is the fine ingredients.
You will need 1 hard red tomato, 1 green pepper, 1 cucumber, 1 dry onion, 6 green or black olives, caper and caper leaves, a piece of fine greek feta cheese and 4 small rusks.
First, you wash thoroughly the tomato, the pepper, the cucumber, the onion and the caper.
Step 1 – You discard the edges of the tomato and then you cut the tomato in half and then in 4.
Step 2 – You discard the edges of the pepper and the seeds and then cut in 1cm thin circular slices.
Step 3 – You peel the cucumber and cut in slices of 2cm.
Step 4 – You chop the onion in half and then in thin semicircular slices.
Step 5 – You bath the rusks in water for a few seconds
You take a big deep plate and you put first the tomato, then the cucumber, then the pepper and the onion, and, finally, the olives, the caper and caperIn case leaves. On top of all, you put a large piece of Greek feta cheese. You may put the rusks in the bottom of the plate or round the plate.
You pour ¼ cup of olive oil in the plate or more, if you wish, 1tsp of salt and 1/2tsp of dry oregano.
Accompany the salad with a glass of beer, wine or ouzo and, then, you may have a slight taste of Greece in your mouth.
