Brilliant machine. Amazing coffee., 26 Dec. 2017

I don’t normally leave reviews unless to help others avoid being ripped off from a naff product.

However, this coffee machine deserves a positive review. I’ve tried several over the years and owned a Bosch Tassimo for 6 or 7 years. The different between the two brands? The quality. I find Tassimo only supply the mass produced cheap coffee, such as Costa which seems to have taken over the super market shelves. I was getting a bit fed up as I can just buy these coffees in a jar at a fraction of the price. The Nespresso range seem to produce top quality coffee that is comparable to ground coffee. I’ve had this machine for a few days now and am really impressed with the flavours.

For those worried about heat, this delivers coffee at the correct temperature, at around 80 degrees (which isn’t boiling as coffee shouldn’t be made with boiling water, ever!). The milk froth dial is brilliant and the container for the milk can be cleaned very easily.

The pods are cheap at around 30p a coffee, which is considerably cheaper than Tassimo at around 50/60p a coffee.

Definitely recommend this product. I bought the glam white which is actually an off-white/cream colour.

Overall good machine until it malfunctions., 11 July 2017

Overall it was a good machine until it started malfunctioning. I have used this machine for 19 months and it may be the right time to change the machine.

Pros 1. Easy to set the amount of water/coffee dispensed on buttons. There are 6 buttons and I am not sure whether the milk frother related functions can be adjusted. But it is very easy to set on the left side buttons to adjust the amount of water/coffee. Once it is set to appropriate amount to your perfect taste, it will make the same coffee each and every time you touch the button.

Pros 2. Quick and easy to use.

Cons 1. : The milk frother is very difficult to clean. Many components to disassemble and the structure is a bit complecated. So, even if I put them in my dish washer, I was worried whether it would be properly cleaned or not. I tried just a few times then I never used it for milk.

Cons 2. About the milk frother again. It works so fast but it does not make thick foam. If the cappuccino is left on the table for 2 min, almost all form will go away. Also the milk is not very tasty comparing to other milk frother machines. So, I have been using a separate milk frother from another Nespresso machine.

Cons 3. The cleaning function is also a bit of headache. It requires 3 steps to clean the limescale and the procedure must be followed to turn off the annoying cleaning indication lamp. It takes a bit long and someone must be in front of the machine waiting for the next step light. If the button is not pressed within certain period of time, the machine will automatically go into power saving mode and the cleaning procedure must start from the scratch.

Even with the cons mentioned above, I loved this machine and wanted to use for long term. However, it started malfunctioning from a few days ago. It does not produce correct amount of coffee. I know that there is a factory default function to reset all manual settings. So, the preset amount can be deleted and it produces the standard amount set by the factory. In my case, each and every time, it produces different amount even though I use the same button. Sometimes it cannot pierce the capsule, then, no coffee is dispensed. It makes me to think that somewhere in the pressure related part is malfunctioning.

Replaces an EC850 very nicely., 26 Nov. 2017
    Richard Mallett (Kent, UK) –

    Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My old EC850 was becoming very unreliable and I needed to replace it. Having now been used to a ‘cappuccino system’ (milk frother), I wanted to keep this feature – and settled for this capsule-based system.

Having used other capsule systems before, I did delay the purchase – but I needn’t have worried. The coffee from this machine is excellent – and whilst that obviously depends on the quality of the ‘pods’ you get, the milk-frother does play a big part in this.

The froth is denser / finer than the EC850 – which at first was a bit worrying, but I soon got to love it. You get a frothy-coffee right down to the bottom of the cup – whereas I’d been used to my old one just having froth on the top.

Compared to the EC850 it’s replacing, it’s a lot smaller (which my wife loves). But the water reservoir seems smaller – as does the milk system (although I’m now used to more froth, and therefore more milk gets used up). One other annoying feature is that the water reservoir is round the back – so you really can’t see when it’s getting low.

Having said all that, the ability to swap between coffee types is great. You get about 20 capsules with the unit, and I then got the 100 selection pack from Nespresso’s site. It’s certainly far more enjoyable to have a different type of coffee each day than just the coffee from the tin you’ve most recently opened. Loving it…
