Good out of the box machine. But you won’t be able to improve on that (as you used to with the older models), 10 Feb. 2018

Out of the box it works very well. It is very hard to make it better (as opposed to the older models):

    1) If you plan to change the steam wand, keep in mind that it is more difficult than it used to be (far from impossible though). Just do your research. I simply use the one provided without the plastic pennarello
    2) It only comes with pressurised baskets. I bought a non pressurised one, but the pressure is waay to high for those.
    3) The change from solenoid to mechanic valve means that it is not possible to adjust the pressure to a lower one. THIS IS A HUGE SHAME, as I am not getting the best out of my coffee and of this machine, which otherwise I like

If like me, you like a good Espresso shot or long rich Americano (with additional non-pressurised basket) this machine is a good, solid and cost-effective choice. Initially I was put off by negative reviews comparing the 2015 classic to the much-loved original, However I personally liked the idea of a stainless-steel boiler (over the original aluminium) and with the addition of a non-pressurised basket, this machine really does produce fantastic coffee. Note: I purchased this along with the excellent sage pro grinder and so far, I have little complaint, I can grind and produce a fine espresso that would have gagged my previous machine.
    Plus, points: -
    Price
    Stainless Steel Boiler
    58mm Portafilter
Good capacity pump (Remember pressure is not everything!)
    Excellent temperature control
    Negative, Points:-
Portafilter Plastic spout! (I have purchased a chrome equivalent)
Non-pressurised basket not included (it is easily purchased, but feel it should be included)
No three-way solenoid valve (even my old unit cut off the brew water to leave a dry puck) this is a shame but, for the price and brew quality, over other (far more expensive) machines, I have tried and been disappointed with, I feel reluctant to mark it down.

In a year it will v likely fail and at a huge expense!, 21 Dec. 2017

I actually got the Gaggia 14101 Classic Espresso Machine a few years ago for £160 but whilst it made excellent espresso with ‘crema, just over year later (just out of warranty, very convenient you’ll see in hindsight…) it failed! The reason I’m talking about an older model is because I’ve heard the more recent model is even more inferior, so my experience would likely be repeated with this recent model…

The expense to get it sent off and repaired by a specialist Gaggia repair company was almost £150! I was advised the cause was due to “Philips having the cheek to swap out the far superior original Italian valve with one of their cheap ones”! An extreme version of Philips putting profit before its customers to the extent I ended up paying almost double for the machine! I was disgusted and naturally assumed the machine was entirely authentic (Italian).

The specialist company also told me to never even use filtered water let alone tap water (not in the instructions/guides) but instead to always use still mineral water. I have done for the last two years since the repair and NOT a problem since, still works perfectly! So given the my experience I have mixed feelings… The machine (with its ORIGINAL parts) is excellent. But now you know you’re cheated and will end up paying almost double (parts, labour, shipping). So you have been warned.
